SuperSolid

Stable and highly efficient perovskite silicon tandem solar modules manufactured in Germany

Solar modules with tandem solar cells are seen as the next generation of solar modules, as they can achieve significantly higher efficiencies than today's solar modules. This technology will also be decisive for Germany's re-entry into the production of solar modules. Modules made from so-called monolithic perovskite silicon tandem solar cells promise a great potential here, as these are very similar in structure to the current standard solar cells and the cell concept is based on today's silicon cell technology. However, these perovskite silicon tandem solar cells are very temperature-sensitive. Development work is therefore required on the tandem cells themselves as well as on module integration, interconnection and encapsulation and the reduction of process temperatures.

The "SuperSolid" project aims to develop large-area solar modules with tandem cells based on perovskite and silicon heterojunction solar cells. The researchers will investigate and develop materials, processes and systems to demonstrate a module efficiency of 25 % and a module service life of 30 years. As a result, a demonstrator will be created at Solarwatt GmbH that is ready for the market. This will also lay the foundations for a production of the next generation of solar modules in Germany.
